Why Watch Come September?
We can’t finish September’s movie recommendations without featuring Come September. In addition to combining the talented Rock Hudson and Gina Lollobrigida, this film has an unusual comical plot and an entrancing Italian setting. From banana peels to chicken feathers, this film has it all!
Set along the Italian Riviera, this film showcases what happens when Robert, a handsome American tycoon (Rock Hudson), falls in love with Lisa, a gorgeous Italian (Gina Lollobrigida). The only problem is Robert thinks meeting his girlfriend once a year in September is enough to keep their romance alive. Marriage is not on his radar. However, Lisa (Lollobrigida) has different plans, so when someone else proposes, she says yes. Only, she doesn’t tell Robert.
Robert’s life is about to get more complicated when he plans a surprise visit to his Italian villa only to find the villa is now a hotel. Robert can thank his “devoted” butler Maurice (Walter Slezak) for this transformation. What’s more, the teen girls and guys staying at the hotel may just be enough to make Robert go insane, especially if he fails to protect the teen girls from the teen guys! It’s a battle between the younger generation and the older generation.
Who will sabotage who first? Will Robert be able to keep the younger set in his sight or will the teen boys sabotage his efforts, and what about his planed rendezvous with Lisa?
Behind the Scenes Fun
Come September also stars Bobby Darin, Sandra Dee, and Brenda de Banzie. This is notably the film where Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee first met. Bobby Darin fans will be delighted that in the film Bobby takes to the stage (literally) with his song “Multiplication” that hit the Billboard charts in 1961.
